Depending on your needs, you can customize settings that allow or restrict privileges for Discord server members and friend requests.

We will present those settings, and you can choose the settings that suit your needs.

The location of the settings

To access this section, you need to go to Settings → Content and Social → Social Permissions/Friend Requests

The settings available

Social Permissions

  • Direct Messages

This function allows or restricts the ability of a server member (of which you are part of - server) to directly message you. This functionality doesn't apply retroactively, meaning if you turn it on and off it will apply only for future server joins.

  • Message requests

This setting allows or restricts a server member possibility of sending you a message requests. The setting in your account will apply only to new server joins.

Important: You need to have Message requests active at all times to receive DMs from server members.

Friend Requests

To receive requests from anyone, even members outside the servers you are part of you need to keep the option for Everyone enabled at all times.

Disabling "Server members" will automatically disable "Everyone" as well so this option also needs to stay on.

Direct message spam

This filter needs to be turned off to make sure that you receive all messages that members may be trying to send you.
